A rollercoaster ride of alternate history. Great first book - looking forward to read more from the same author.
This is a fantastic read. It's an alternative history, mixed with some fantastical elements and lots and lots of surprises. Doesn't go where you think it's going to go which is perhaps my favorite aspect. Recommended.
I read this novel over the course of a few hours. highly engaging .. It provokes you to think of the possible alternatives to the history that we know today.

Yasser Bahjatt has written a science fiction novel with a unique theme -- an Islamic alternative history, combining not only important alternative historical events but also the alternative societies and alternative technologies that result, all combined in one exciting tale that unfolds page by page in a believable manner. I look forward to the sequel(s) to discover more of the well-constructed worlds that he has envisioned,
This is a great read, interesting on several levels. Many science fiction/fantasy books, from Dune to Game of Thrones, have set themselves wholly or partially in arabic-like lands. But these are almost always a westerner's fantasy of the arabic world. I liked this story because it is written by a native of Saudi Arabia. That's pretty much a first as far as I know. I also liked the way what I first thought to be a pure fantasy gradually revealed itself to be at least partially an alternate history; although it was not made explicit, I think I know the true identity of this land called "Yaqteenya," and that became a "what if" question that gave the fiction a whole other level of interest. I'm knocking off a star because I don't think the story got to a satisfactory stopping point before it ended. The book is mostly easy to understand, even if some of the references probably make more sense to the Arabic reader -- indeed, I liked puzzling over those. Right at the end, however, it suddenly got harder to understand what was going on, and then it ended! Oh well, I shall have to wait for the sequel.
I have lived in several Middle East countries a number of years and have several Muslim friends, that respected my religious beliefs as I do there's.
Brilliant book with a very unique theme. Fast pace, easy to read, and full of adventure. The author has big ideas and a wide imagination, and the book gives a nice oriental fantasy mood.
